    Consumable: One use only.

    1. Mechanics!

    1.1 DoubleJump

The DoubleJump is something everyone knows. Double tap the spacebar to double jump and keep tapping to 'flutter' so to speak. Many players only use this for saving themselves when they fall. However, you can use this in PvP to get behind the enemy and get a combo on them. If you can get this down right, you'll be able to surprise your enemy by double jumping behind them and getting a 15% combo on them.

The DoubleJump can also be used to stop you in midair automatically. This requires practice though. If you get hit with 100%hp and you doublejump very close after you get hit, your velocity will reset. The same goes for the jetpack.

It is possible to do a 'Double' double jump so to speak. When you normally jump, wait until you get very close to the ground, then doublejump. You will instantly regain your doublejump bar due to you being 'almost' on the ground, but you will gain air. So when you are in air from the first one, doublejump again to do the double doublejump. If you can do this in a game, it will throw your enemy off balance and you will be able to get to higher places easier.

    1.2 Grabbing

Grabbing. What supposedly separates the new people from the good people. Almost no signs in the help spawn in Smash tell you how to grab. The basis of it is right click close, and the person will come on top of your head. You can then left click to throw them. Seems easy enough to do, but it is quite hard. Not every time you right click and left click will it work. Most of the time it will just drop the player in front of your face. One way it works a lot of the time is when you left click and right click very fast. Otherwise to my knowledge it's a hit/miss.

There are many strategies to use the grab function. One of them is when you grab them turn around walk backwards looking upwards and left clicking (Hitting) so that when they hop off even if the grab didn't work, you will be ready to hit them which will still in turn send the flying. You can use the grab very effectively when getting rid of jetpackers as well. Look for the spawnbox head to the around the edge of the map where it is. Right click the enemy turn him around and launch him with his jetpack into the spawnbox! Instttakill! This only works 50% of the time. The spawnbox is currently very glitchy in it's instakilling and you could just die once and be able to fly.

A good thing to know is how long the grab lasts. I have been playing so long that it is encoded in my brain when my grab will be ready so that I can use it again and use the method above. But to other players, this will not be the case. In order to remember this, you will either want to time how long the cooldown of the grabbing is in your head or play so much that you just know when. Also keep in mind that the grab does 10% damage, which is like 3 punches or 5 punches with an item in your hand. That said, it's even more important that you know when it recharges so you can use them as often as possible in the beginning, because it can do a lot of damage to your opponent when used with a hit/grab/smash combo. Nray93: The time is about 10 seconds.

    1.3 Smashing
Perhaps one of the most unique things that makes Smash special is it’s specially coded Smash mechanic. The tactics for this are plentiful. The Smash can go through wall. Due to this, it is good to use this when you have hit a user out and they are on the opposite side of a wall from you. The Smash can also prove very useful for stopping recoveries. When a player is coming back, Smash and hit them while they are fluttering in midair back. The Smash + Hit combo is also useful in all situations. Smashing the player and after that in about 0.5 of a second, hit them. The Smash will cause them to go in midair and as a lot of players know, hitting people in midair is way more effective than hitting them on the ground.

You can also use this in combination of the grab mechanic. Just grab the player and using and throw him on the edge. Smash hit him while he is near the edge. Or you can use the tactic of grabbing then letting go to hit in midair to your advantage. Get the player close to edge by using the tactic to get him near it. Then finally use the Smash + Hit combo to get him to fly far into the void!

    2. Items!
The items in the game are key to know if you want to be the very best. This guide will go over how to use the weapons effectively. If you would like to know what they do and a complete list, check here http://shotbow.net/forum/wiki/smash-items/. Distinguishing the best items from really bad ones is vital in all situations. In order to know which item is better in a situation you have to read what is going on at the time. For example, if the guy has 1 life left and you have 3 with very high dmg. Would you take a Rocket Launcher or a JetPack? So remember these items using them in unranked/ranked!

    2.1 The Swords
The swords. Good ol’ fashion swords. These guys are great dmg. dealers and are reliable. Wooden swords are always good to start off the game as they give you that key advantage in the beginning of having less % than your opponent. Swords decrease in value as the game goes on due to most of the players having high %. Once you turn 100%+, there is almost no point in using a sword on them. In fact there is a disadvantage; grabbing is harder with a sword. So TL;DR, good In the beginning, decrease in value as game drags on due to everyone being high %. The swords also give a slight bit more knockback than normal; you can use this to your advantage by Smashing then hitting with the sword when your enemy is in the red.

Counter: Don’t get hit. (Haha) If you have high damage, this will knock you farther, and if you have low damage, it will just tack on %. Nothing to really counter it besides getting a healing item. Be wary of it at high % though, as smash hit is more effective.

    2.2 The Bows
The 2 bows are very much different, so for this paragraph I will talk about the shotbow specifically. The shotbow deals 100% on a perfect hit and is great for making players get low health in the start-game and mid-game. One tactic for dealing damage with the shotbow reliably is too right click (grab) them and keep hold of the right click charging your bow. While charging look up and let go. Almost all the arrows will hit the person you grabbed if you did it right. If this is too hard, then another way is to hide behind a wall and wait for them to come to you. As they approach, fire. The shotbow is enchanted and the bow is nonenchanted, this help greatly when seeing if it is worth it to pick it up. You should see the enchanted effect on the ground if you have the right graphic settings.

Counter: Use your speed to move around a lot and your doublejumps.

    2.3 Speed
Speed is a double edged sword. On one side it gives you such a great advantage over the enemy for a reasonable amount of time. But on the other side, the effects you get can be do or die if you are 70%+. For this item, I recommend only using when you have 0% – 50% unless the enemy has very high damage and using it has a high chance of helping you kill them, to ensure that you are safe after the boost of speed.

Counter: No counter other than looking for items and running out the person’s speed 2. After their speed wears off, go in for the kill. They are significantly weaker in this state and should be taken full advantage of.

    2.4 Player Grapple
Many players underestimate this item. When they use it, all they do is usually spam it. This is okay if you the enemy has high damage and you are in open ground and need to quickly get him, But to use this item but usually you have to be precise, because you will get a lot more uses. When you use this item, make sure the person you are trying to kill has 55%+, as that will ensure they will go far. First, hook them. Second. Attack with the fishing rod. Third, wait until he double jumps to try to get back in bound. That is the time you right click. While in the air, players go very far with the fishing rod. So if you can wait for the right moment, you will kill him.

Counter: Strafing. Dodge the hook. If you get hooked, don’t jump or doublejump. Make your best effort to detach yourself from the hook by running as far as you can from the enemy, because generally if they are keeping you on the hook, they are going to wait until they see an opportunity. If you are unable to run away, try hiding behind a wall or something that will lessen the force of the pull.

    2.5 Just A Crappy Snowball
It’s just a crappy snowball. Can I go now?

Ok fine, the tactics you can use with this is try to hit the guy recovering while he is in midair. If it works then it’s great if it doesn’t it really doesn’t matter because in the end it was just a crappy snowball. While it can prove very useful against an enemy with high damage, it's better to throw it away and get your grabs back to do more damage if they have low damage.

Counters: Strafe. Don’t get hit with it while in the air, otherwise you should be good lower than 60%.
    It has been removed.

    2.6 The Smasher
This guy is a massive damage dealer and can turn a game around. It does 100% if you hit the ground below a person, and better yet you can hit them right after you use it to get them surprised!

Counters: Jump a lot, don’t be caught staying on the ground too much.

    2.7 Rocket Launcher
This item like the Smasher, can be a game changer. It fires a very fast fireball when you right click in any direction you look. It does massive damage and can 1 shot most enemies. With this weapon, you’ll want to be slightly far from the enemy, because the blast radius is huge and you can easily kill yourself. Fire it in such a manner that will make him launch off the island. With practice, you can 1 shot most people if you angle right. If you get the rocket launcher and get hit off, you can doublejump and make a last attempt to fire a rocket at the enemy.

Counters: Really no counters, so you're going to have to dodge it. Try jumping a lot, or go very close to the enemy so the enemy also takes the damage of the rocket launcher. Then and just hope you survive. If possible, try to get in an area where you have walls around you and avoid open areas to survive the blast.

    2.8 Frag Grenade
Almost every item has a tactic you can use. Even with the frag grenade. To use this nade effectively, get a frag. Then approach your enemy. Right click to grab your enemy at the same time you drop the frag on the floor. When the frag is about to explode, left click to throw him in the explosion and run from the frag. This takes him to around 70% damage if you did it right. Free damage with nothing but a frag. It’s important to remember how long the wait time on the frag is. If the above technique is too advanced for you right now, then just try to aim ahead of the direction they are running. A really good method is to wait for them to double jump, then shoot it as quickly as possible in the area that they are going to land, leaving them no way to escape. Another technique is to hide behind a wall, then wait for them to come for you. When you see them nearing, throw is straight down and stand there for a moment to trick them into thinking there's no threat besides you. When the moment seems right, jump away and they will be caught in the blast.

Counter: If they use the advanced tactic above, shift very quickly when you get grabbed and doublejump away. If they use it normally, just doublejump away.

    2.9 Proximity Mine
This item has some strategies. When you get this item, immediately throw it in a place around the arena. If you have 100%+ and the other person has 0%-30%, get close to the pressure plate. When the enemy comes or is coming very close walk over the pressure plate to activate it. When activated, it will have the same effect as the frag. Around 70% damage done and the enemy launched far. Another technique you can use, especially if you're on low damage, is to hide the pressure plate in an area that is used often or is necessary to get somewhere. Make sure that is is very hard to see so that they don't find it.

Counters: Pay attention to where plates are. Avoid these areas generally but more so if you are at 0%-30%.

    2.10 Cluster Grenade
Throw this item in the general direction players are fighting. This works best due to them not paying attention. The TNT will go off damaging them. You can then go in for the kill. Much like the frag, another valid technique is to hide somewhere and wait for someone to come to you. As they are coming, throw it straight down. By the time they realize it's there, it'll be too late. Best part is that it makes no noise, unlike the frag, so this method is even easier to achieve. However, make sure you have a quick escape plan so that you don't get caught in the blast with your opponent.

Counters: Make sure you are diligent of your surroundings. If you see a TNT, make sure you stay clear of it using the doublejump to climb above it or by running. A mistake people often make is to try and grab one not realize it's been fired, so always make sure it's not active before going to grab it.

    2.11 Ice Cube
The Ice Cube is a relatively bad item. It takes a long time to activate when you throw it, and is very obvious to see. You can use the tactic with the TNT and throw this in a group of people or hide it and lure an opponent, because this doesn't make noise either. If you get someone with it, you will have a large advantage, making it very very easy to kill people, since they have little to no way of recovering, so make sure you go for the kill in this short window of time. Also make sure that when you throw this close range you do not freeze yourself. ,

Counters: Again, pay attention to your surroundings to make sure someone hasn't thrown an Ice Cube at you. If you do get caught, you will most likely notice that jumping is incredibly hard with it as the slowness can get in the way a lot. Make your best effort to stay in a dense area, avoiding open spots if possible.

    2.12 Fire Flower
A rare item, but a good one at that. With this item you can cause massive amounts of damage to your opponent, and set them on fire which increases the likelihood of them missing if they are using the default texture pack. The fire flower has 5 uses and does about 50% damage every time you hit someone at different times. A very powerful weapon to cause widespread damage because of its multiple uses. When using this weapon, to ensure the aim you have, try to hit the enemy when he/she is coming down from a doublejump. When coming down from a doublejump there is about a 0% chance they will be able to get away. You can also use this to create fires on the ground which is very powerful causing players to go to red just by stepping in it for 1 second. It is hard to make them go into the fire though. One tactic is grabbing them then throwing them in the fire. Another is to hide to fire somewhere that they would go or even lure them into it.

Counters: Be unpredictable. Don’t just move in one straight line. Players will easily predict your movements if you do this and will fire at the place you will be, setting you on fire and to 60% damage. You have to move as if you are dodging a ghostcraft stab – so wild and unpredictable. Try to trick them by making think they have a good opportunity to fire at you, then dodging it, because getting rid of their bullets will be helpful.

    2.13 Monster Egg
This item is very hard to comment on as it has many mobs associated with it. Depending on the mob, you will want to adapt that mob into your strategy accordingly. If it is a charged creeper, and you have a surplus of damage on you, you would want to use that creeper to damage the other players. If it is a villager, you would want to find the highest priority item in the group of items fast.

Counters: If a giant comes out, go below the giant. No not directly below it, but even about 7 blocks away from in you should be safe unless it is not on the same y axis as you (height). The giant creates explosions going in an upwards slope, so if you try to jump near it, you will be in a world of pain. All the other mobs are relatively easy to dodge using the doublejump.
Just remember to pay attention to the eggs that are being thrown on the battlefield; some of them could be a villager with a jetpack in it that will save your game!

    2.14 Instant Teleporter
This item has a one time use and can be used to save your life or to take anothers. Depending on how you aim the eye upon knock out, you can change the way stuff happens. For example, say you got knocked out. You’ll want to wait until you are the closest you can be to the edge of the map by doublejumping/fluttering, then teleport. You will get behind the enemy, and have the upper hand in searching for new items. A great offensive technique is to purposely go near the edge and make it look like you're vulnerable. When your opponent goes to kill you, teleport right behind him and knock him off. It'd be ideal to make sure he has at least a yellow name tag before doing this, but is able to be done regardless. Also, be careful when using this item, because if you right click on accident, you may teleport off the map, even through walls.

Counters: When you hit a person out that has an eye of ender, backup. Depending on how far you threw him, you will want to backup accordingly. When he teleports, immediately slam him with a grab attack or a Smash hit combo. In general, just be conscience of the fact that he could teleport behind you or anywhere at any moment.

    2.15 Jetpack
Some new people out there maybe asking, what’s this item he has been talking about all this guide? Well currently, the most overpowered item in the game. The jetpack. The jetpack can save many lives if used right. An argument can be made about which is more overpowered, the jetpack or the rocket launcher, but in the end the jetpack wins by flying stars. When it comes down to it, lives are more important than damage. A little thing about the jetpack that a lot of people fail to go by is “Using 1 jetpack fuel if you are unsure is OK”. When people get knocked off with the jetpack, they try to use as little fuel as possible; due to greediness of course. But when doing to this, they always have to remember if they are unsure whether they will make it or not, to ALWAYS USE A JETPACK FUEL. What usually happens is that they fall due to them trying to save their fuel. Then they have to use even MORE fuel; usually half a tank full. Another point to be made is that sometimes, stuff is better than a jetpack. For examples, a 2 use jetpack is probably worse than a rocket launcher and/or an ender eye. The ender eye grants almost always a 1 use saving item. The 2 use jetpack on the other hand, might not. An amazing offensive technique that can be used is to stand near the edge, giving the opponent the idea that you're vulnerable at that moment. When they come to hit you, grab them. Walk off the edge, wait VERY briefly, then throw them. Quickly fly back up to safety. This takes lots of practice to execute correctly and is only recommended to very advanced players, but when done right you can get a free kill, even on strong players. If done wrong, you will kill both him and yourself, or possibly just kill yourself if he escapes.

Counters: There are not many counters to this. One very good thing you can do is to try to get the jetpacker under the map. When under the map, the jetpackers get ‘stuck’ hitting the ceiling. But as this is very hard to do without a set amount of circumstances, it isn’t very practical to try. Another counter is making throwing the jetpackers into the spawn box. Most jetpackers wouldn’t respond fast enough to avoid collision with the spawn box. Also hitting the jetpackers so far on the maps that they hit the “Barrier Zone” where they instantly die. This only works on special maps that are placed high in the air though. The final solution to jetpackers is to camp where they are going to land and hit them straight away when they arrive. Generally, the goal of a jetpacker is to survive, so you're going to have to force them away from safety. You have a large offensive advantage since you can grab and they can't. So if they're camping, grab them and walk them towards the edge and throw. Keep draining their Jet Pack until it's gone.

    2.16 Singularity Grenade
As stated in the frag grenade overview, you can grab someone and use the singularity grenade at the same time, then throw the enemy after into the singularity grenade to do a good chunk of damage. Another strategy for this is to throw it right when you get it. Then try to get a player to go into it by grabbing him and throwing him, or using the Smash Hit tactic.Just like the Frag or Cluster Grenade, you can also hide and shoot it straight down when the enemy is coming for you, making it impossible for him to escape. This item doesn't have sounds either, so this method is also really easy to achieve.

Counters: Pay attention to your surroundings. Like the other grenade type items, make sure that they aren't active before going to pick them up. You can shift when a player grabs you if they are using that the grab and throw tactic. If you get caught in one, try to get out by jumping when it flings you farthest away from it.

    2.17 Food
Food is very good when you are on 30%-40% and have no significant item on you. Healing 10% damage comes in handy, and is just a ‘nice to have’ item. You can get food in the beginning since it is so common and hold on to it until you reach 10% in which you can eat it. In the time you get to 10%, you can basically inflict extra damage, giving you the 1up in early fights. It's very smart to run and eat as much food as you can to lower your damage. Eating a lot of food can change the game around. However, if your damage is too high, like over 150%, then it's going to take too long to get rid of the red and yellow name tags. You can try to, but it may be ideal to just play accordingly.

    Counters: N/A; consumable.

    2.18 Awesome Soup
The awesome soup is simply... awesome (punny). It helps a load in combat. Getting one of these guys with 0% can give you a huge advantage in combat. I recommend not being greedy with it. Sometimes you should using it at 50% and lower though, especially in risky areas, just for safe measures. Also take note that carrying this item in combat means you will deal less damage than usual. Figuring out which item is better; a awesome soup or your current situation is a decision you will have to make for yourself though.

Counter: You can try to Smash away to soup if you don’t need it and the other person does. You can also try to Smash away the person trying to go for the soup you are looking at, though doing this is very hard.

    2.19 Poison Pots
This item is extremely rare due to the fact that they are only obtainable through the dispensers at StoneHold. You can’t even just open the dispenser and take it – you actually have to blow it up with yourself at 100% damage or a explosive. Plus this only works once a time every server reboot for each dispenser. This makes them extremely rare. But nevertheless I have got my fair share of them. If you get one, use it like you would in HCF if you play it. Start backing up then right click it at the desired target. You can also catch them on the way down from there doublejump. These poison pots gets the user to almost a guaranteed 100%, so they are very effective.

    Counter: RUN.

    2.20 Crafty Bomb
The Crafty I think is still pretty bad. The duration is 3 seconds and it is very noticeable. It is not that hard to run out of the way of a 2x2 block of TnT that is ticking. If you have never played crafty bomber, the 2x2 tnt blocks act as those. They blow up anthing in front, sides, or back. But there blast zone is only 2x2 in any direction. One good setup you can use is to place the bomb and grab the opponent right when you place it, if they sh ift out they will lose there double jump and have a better cahnce of being in the radius of the bomb. Another way to use this item is to hold it until you get knocked off e.g. on Arena where if you just missed the outer ring can place it below you to do a double double jump or just get hit far up by the blast I I believe the bomb does that when you are right above. It is useful it it's own ways but should not be highly prioritized over other more guaranteed items.

Counter: Stay away from close areas and listen for tings from it.

    2.21 Cloud In A Bottle
Replaces the snowball basically, cloud in a bottle is the worst recovery item in my opinion. It doesn't work horizontally very well and you have to wait until you aren't moving much to the side and are going down before you can use it. The way to use the cloud in a bottle is that when you use it, you have to double double jump so you get around 1.6x more distance than with a normal jump. I wouldn't recommend picking this item up unless you have 70%+ hp. The most recommended use for this item is on a vertical map such as The Ship or Stonehold.

Counter: Wait for enemy to jump back on the map.

    2.22 Regenerate Map
The regen map item is very situational. You have to have holes in the ground and basically lure a enemy in the hole, jump out, and use it. The enemy will then suffocate. If there are no holes around then it is pretty much useless and you should use right away. If you use this item on stronghold you will be able to poison pots from the dispensers at the bottom of the map.

    Counter: Stay away from holes.

Warning: It does cause your client to freeze if there are a lot of blocks regening at the same time.

    3. The Maps

You can find the complete list of maps with some tips here! http://shotbow.net/forum/wiki/smash-maps/
I will be going into full detail of these maps, but you can reference the wiki at any time if you need to! Going from A –Z, here is a complete list of maps with tips and tricks on each one!
General Map Tips: Playing on the maps more and more can help increase your memory of where items spawn; which is key in some situations. It can also help you understand which place is safe and which place isn’t. Trial and error is the best way to determine your own strategy for every map.
Every map can be in ranked, it seems.
ForceField at the spawn of each map is existent. It is very buggy though and sometimes doesn't kill the player.

    3.1 Arena
The big arena. The simplest one yet the most popular one. This map supports a plethora of playing styles. The first thing I would like to say is that lava is bad is jetpackers on this map. Lava on this map can easily be used to kill jetpackers. Overtime in an intense game, the map will be very messed up. Due to there most likely being holes in the floor, you can jump in one of these holes to start a digging fight, where the goal is to get the other player in lava at the sides. Another way to get rid of jetpackers on this map is by grab throwing them into the spawn box. If you are at around 100% on arena, your best bet would be to stay in the middle. In the middle, it is very hard for you or for anyone else to get knocked out due to the outer ring you Smash against when you get knocked back far. One way to kill players on this map if they are in the middle is to grab them, jump and look over the outer ring, then throw them into the void. Another option is to Smash Hit them. Smashing them will cause them to go up while hitting them will give them the velocity to go out. It’s kind of like rise over run in math. Except Smash over Hit.

    3.2 Atrium
One of the original and perhaps most balanced map. The strategy you want to implement here is varied. The outer ring provides a easy way to kill red people with the Smash + Hit tactic and just plain throwing them out. The inner ring/inside provides protection from basically everything. One thing to note is if you are on the bottom-most floor, you can actually throw a person down into the big gaping hole in the middle. You can also destroy the middle platform on the bottom floor to prevent anyone from getting out. Jetpackers on this map and either extremely hard to kill or very easy depending on where you kill them. If you kill them on the bottom floor, then they will be shocked they fell and use a lot more jetpack fuel. On the other hand, the middle floor is a paradise for jetpackers as they can hit the basically everywhere and be ok in almost all situations. Even if they do fall they won’t go as far because they will jetpack to the bottom floor or even land on the bottom floor if they fall.

    3.3 BeatBox
One of the most inclosed maps ever, beatbox is the most PvP intensive map besides Arena due to it’s size. Just one giant in the middle can completely wreck this map. The sheer smallness of this map has made a lot of people hate it. But nevertheless there are some legitimate tactics on this map. You should almost never go up with 50% or higher health (less or more depending on how good of a reaction time you have). If you go up, you have a very high chance of dieing through a Smash + Hit or a grab attack. Also don’t think having a jetpack makes you a amazing on this map like it did on other maps - on this map the forcefield of the spawn is very close. I would say 8 blocks from the map is forcefield on the spawn box side. So even if you have a jetpack, it is very dangerous. Also remember to look at your surroundings. Make sure you know where that spawn box is so you don’t get combo-ed and hit into it in a matter of seconds. A head start in damage on this map is very helpful. Since killing people is so easy in such a small map, if you can get the person facing you to around 70% early with you around 10%, you will be able to dominate that person presuming the arena is already a tad bit banged up on the bottom.

    3.4 Cathedral
All I have to say about this map is that it is annoying to kill someone. You have to either combo the heck out of them against a wall, or keep hitting them all the way toward to edge. This map is very enclosed, making the use of frags against the wall very effective.

    3.5 Fortress
This is map has very open areas as well as very closed areas. One thing to look out for here is campers. Usually they like to camp all the way on the tip-top of the tower. If you are at high % I would advise against going on the stairs up to the top tower as that place is very open. If you are at a high percent you can stay at the bottom-est floor or the top floor. Just make sure you have mostly blocks around you. If you are at low % fighting a guy with high % then you will want to grab them and try to throw them through the wall. Then less than a second after, Smash. Grabbing and throwing them through a wall depends on the direction you are looking though, as it doesn’t work on some direction.

    3.6 FortSponge
On this map it is very easy to kill someone, but very hard at the same time. My tips would be if you are at a relatively high %, to stay in the middle. When in the middle, most people would just hit you and you would just hit the wall. If you are at low %, you would want to look around for items that could potentially help you, check the item part of this thread for tips on that. Otherwise just employ the many strategies stated in this thread. I don’t want to sound like a broken record, but you can use the Smash Hit tactic near the edge and overall on the first floor. This map does have its spawn relatively close enough to get a jetpack FF kill, so you can always use that if someone is just camping with a jetpack. On the bottom floor the better option would be to use the grab hit tactic to just throw your opponent out. Otherwise just plain hitting works wonders due to everything being close.

3.7 FTL (Faster Than Light Reference!)
Perhaps one of the most controversial maps, FTL. By controversial I really mean most people hate it. Due to the many lag spikes (fps) caused by this map, the height limit in which you die instantly, and the parkour many people despise this map. There are many ways to kill your enemy in this map. If you get a rocket launcher and hit someone right smack in the face, it is a instakill always due to them hitting the height limit which causes them to die instantly. You can also do this by Smashing your opponent up when they have around 100%. You can also just throw your opponent in the void to have a good chance at killing them. But due to the influx of rocks or asteroids, they can easily land on top of one of them. They have recently (maybe) updated this map to make both ships closer and easier to get across. A tip for this map would be to make sure you can double jump when crossing over void, as it is very easy to fall in here. Otherwise use normal tactics stated. (Smash Hit, grab throw, and the item tactics). Also if you want to be really sly, if you have a enderpearl or jetpack or nothing and get knocked up, you should either use the jetpack or enderpearl or shift to get down as fast as you can. You have to have a varying reaction time to do this depending on how hard you got launched.

    3.8 Garden
This is the place you will want to practice your close corners combat. This map is very small and is inclosed, making for some unique gameplay. You can try to get a grab throw here through very small spaces, but it is extremely hard due to the bugginess of the grab and actually making in the hole. One good thing to know on this map: you can Smash through walls. Although not very important in most maps, this tactic is great in Garden due to the outside being very close to the edge. If the enemy is at 50%-60% or below, it is almost a guaranteed kill if you catch them in surprise. Otherwise if they are fast, the enemy is going to have to have around 70% to one shot them with the Smash through a wall tactic. On this map, most of the time you have to just wing it. Most of the situations you get into are very close corners and in those situations you have to judge your % and the enemies % and develop a plan right there on the spot. Also don’t be fooled if a player is near the edge just waiting there; they are most likely trying to bait you. When they do this, you come in close then after that they double jump around you then Smash Hit you to death.

    3.9 GhostFleet
Ghost Fleet is also a map a lot of people despise due to how easy it is to die and how easy it is to save yourself. On Ghost Fleet, there are vines in which when you get knocked off, you can double jump forever if you look up on them. So in order to kill your opponent(s) you have to throw them really far or get lucky. One tip is not to hang around with 70%+ on the flags. It is a really open spot. On the other hand, the bottom deck of each shop is really enclosed and is great if you have high % and the enemy has low %. On this map you can throw people through walls. It only works on some directions, but when it does, it almost always kills them. If someone does this to you, your best bet would be to hold shift if you suspect they are trying to grab you. Otherwise you would want to get the enemy to a high % faster than you do, because due to the smallness of a ship, you should be able to kill him easily with high %. The FF is not very close, but you could be able to kill a jetpacker in the middle ship with the FF if you really launch him in there with a grab throw, Smash Hit, etc.

    3.10 Library
This map I would say is the hardest map to kill someone at. Most people go down to the main library, where they are almost impossible to kill due to the walls and everything around them. The only way to kill someone while they are down there is to either get lucky and while you are hitting them they fall, or to throw them in the void by grabbing then looking down fast and throwing. Otherwise your best bets are to explode a lot of the floor and hope they fall in while trying to throw them in. Jetpackers here aren't too much of a problem; when players fall they get disoriented and usually bang their head at the bottom and couple times, wasting their jetpack. Due to this, they most likely will only get one save out of a jetpack. The top ring is very dangerous even to 40%, and is advised not to go there unless you are around 20% and can save themselves fast. This map is generally an all out brawl.

    3.11 NetherFort
A lot of people hate it, a lot of people love it. On NetherFort, there is a multitude of holes scattered about on the map, so you always have to be paying attention. It is also a very small and open map. Due to this the best offensive move would be the grab throw. The FF is close enough to kill jetpackers with a Smash Hit or a grab throw when the are walking along the middle path, so on this map nothing is safe. There is also lava in which you can try to throw players in on one side. Skilled players know how to make the most out of their environment though, so they will be able to survive a long time with high %, so always make sure you identify these threats and take them out, because if you leave them to the end of the match it’ll be 3-1. Also watch out for runners running to the right side of the map for items. This side is very dangerous so I recommend not trying to follow the enemy unless you are on % where you can handle getting back to land if you get knocked off due to the openness of that area.

    3.12 Oculus
There is a lot of variety in this map. First things first, the middle of this map is everyone's friend from very % to low % people. When you get hit far in the middle. you have a very low percent chance of dieing due to the outer ring. This can make killing people in mid very hard unless you make some super hit which sends them flying past the outer ring. Otherwise I suggest throwing them out when they have around 60%-70%. At this percent, they don’t quite reach the outer ring or the middle, falling to their doom. If they are at 100%+, your best bet is to go in the staircase and brawl it out. Try to get your opponent on the outside where the outer ring starts From there, you should be able to easily Smash Hit them or grab it them. If I ever get in this situation, I usually double double jump over them, or try to Smash when they try to hit me which causes my velocity to stop. You can also go on the outer ring around, but I never due to most opponents hitting me while I run which causes me to fly and die. One thing to note about this map is the bottom platforms and lava. There is a lot of platforms under the map in which you can save yourself a lot of the time. Unless you get hit in the middle of 2, you can mostly save yourself. But be weary of the lava there, when you are in the heat of the moment, you can accidentally fall in it very easily. There is also lava in the middle of the map where the small tower is, so if you are brawling in the middle tower I would suggest you to get out of there. The spawn is quite far away so unless you are purposely close to it and get a good grab throw and Smash Hit it is hard to kill a jetpacker.

    3.13 Research Lab
This is by far the map where even new players can last the whole 10 minutes on. The only 2 buildings on the map and almost completely enclosed. There is only a couple ways to kill people on this map. One that I haven’t tried yet is the grab through a wall. Another is to get a really good grab throw in which you throw them in the space between the bridges and the wall. The final way is to just hammer your opponent in a wall until they go out the other side. On the other hand, the outside of the 2 labs are very open. One grab throw can almost kill any way very easily. The FF is very far and only accessible outside the labs on top of a roof. So jetpackers on this map are even more of a problem. I recommend just trying to go for kills on this map. Due to the timer crowning the winner with the most kills, this seems like the most logical way to win due to the very low chance of you getting a kill on someone in the lab (which is where most people are).

    3.14 Ruins
This map is quite balanced in many ways. It fits most of peoples play styles. There are open places, slightly enclosed places, mostly enclosed places, very open places, and even a place to camp. On the east side of the map, it is mostly open besides the shed. The shed has one drop off point. It is perfect for killing people in and ding in. One grab throw can easily end someone's life. In the middle of the map is a big structure; his being the place that is mostly enclosed. The only area that is dangerous is really dangerous. North of that place is void, and not just any void; the spawn is basically right there. South is the very wide open place. Basically you can die everywhere around you except north where the tree is. Up is where the place to camp is and East is where it is open but there is water flowing down.Suggested methods of killing are Smash Hit, Grab Hit, Grab Throw because this is all you need. Eye of Ender is recommended as well as a jetpack.

    3.15 ShroomKingdom
ShroomKingdom is an… interesting map. It looks as if on this map it is very wide open and easy to get killed. Quite the contrary though, Shroom’s islands are all relatively close which allows most throws or smashes into the void to be futile. Most players go down to the main building/only structure in the map as this provides most protection from everything. It is easy when you get the chance to kill someone, but hard when you don’t. You can have a lot of points in a match where you just keep hitting each other in a closed place underground or in the tower. So in that regard it is very hard to kills people. But when they are outside those areas, it is very as the map is fairly open even near the huge tower. Straight out of the entrance is just void and the bottom of islands; the perfect place to grab and throw someone in. Also out the other side is just void. In this area you have to especially be careful. If you get caught standing near the edge or you got hit and landed on the edge, they WILL take advantage of this. The only way to avoid something like this is to try to jump on a mushroom on the sides or try to jump over them. You also have to be careful at the edges at the other side not with the tower as that is the place the most open.

    3.16 StoneHold
StoneHold is very small. Yet, players last a long time on it. The most overpowered items on this map are fireflowers and lots of tnt. If the ground/walls break, you are basically subjected to get grab and thrown through the gaps. On this map, you can grab throw through a wall on some places. Despite it’s looks, if a person just keeps hitting you against a wall, you're going to die. The most open place on this map is the top; one grab throw can kill you. Plus the spawnbox is very close and is accessible on the top as well. You also have to pay attention to where you are stepping due to the big hole in the middle of the map. The bottom does spawn a lot of items though, and because of that, a lot of people go there. Sing. Nades are especially threatening on this map due to their huge size and the smallness of this map. Also explosives are put you at danger greatly on the bottom, due to there being only void below you.

    3.17 Swamp**
A lot of people with bad computers hate this map. If you stutter or even lag just a bit, you are going to die due to the unforgiving nature of the 1 block water. Jetpacks are generally just overpowered on this map, due to if you fall in the water it just takes about 3 uses to get back up. The eye is really bad on this due to if you fall in the water and use it to try to get up, you will just fall again. So it is only really good for recovery when you get hit out. The most major spot for fighting is the big tower. This map is usually whoever gets the jetpack first wins. If you don’t find a jetpack it is very hard to win/survive on this map. I recommend not Smashing as that makes you not able to doublejump.

SkeletonXF238: I recommend laggy players editing the water texture to an 8x8 file size (as it's one of few defualt textures to be in high res), as this seriously reduced lag for me and made Swamp playable.
Again I recommend the same for lava maps like arena where I have died countless times to lagging when looking at lava when lag kills me by disabling my jump.

*Swamp lags out a lot of people currently because it freezes you in mid air. It is recommended from me you try to leave the map if you get a ranked match in it if you already have lag.*

    **Has been removed from ranked.
    3.18 Temple
This map is very open, and has very fast games if you don't know what you are doing. The FF is very close so jetpacks and eyes are mitigated with their powers. Due to this there are many ways you can kill the enemy. You can grab throw them or you can smash hit them off. There is also a place you can “dig” into the wall, on the bottom ledge. Rocket Launchers on this map are pretty much deadly as they can get the enemy to red hp and perhaps kill them due to the smallness of the map. Being red on this map and surviving takes a lot of practice and knowledge of the map. Many players like to camp on the tower, make sure you look at it every once and a while. Otherwise just make sure you are never caught on the edge with 40%+ and make sure to try to shift out of all the grabs to avoid being thrown in the spawnbox.

    3.19 TheShip
TheShip is a very vertical based map, and is quite easy to die on due to the openness on the top and the numerous holes caused by explosives on the bottom of the map. Many items spawn on top of the ship, making it an ideal place to go up quick, then go down and return to the fight. The spawn is relatively close to the ship on one side, which allows you to destroy jetpackers. The bottom is also good for killing them as the holes are unpredictably and are hard to jetpack out of when you fall. There for, a ender eye increases in value on this map as it allows you to aim better where you land/survive at. Also remember to watch out for people setting fire to where you spawn as it can mess you over later.

    3.20 Volcano
On volcano, the tide of the battle can change very fast in a matter of seconds with one move. The lava that is usually out of the volcano creates a unique experience in which even a jetpacker can be killed instantly with a good grab. This is why volcano matches are either very fast, or very short. On the map itself with the lava aside, you can survive relatively well due to the bridge and the islands surrounding it.One way to kill your opponent in the middle is to actually throw them down into the void, causing them to not have enough time or jump to make it back up. As always, you have to know the item spawns here to coordinate your tactics. The FF on this map is pretty far and hard to get to effectively. But nevertheless the lava compensates for this loss as most of the time when you go into lava you instantly die. Due to this you should coordinate your explosives to a point where lava will pour out.

    3.21 WhiteChapel
This is a very special map, where more conventional matches take place. Due to it’s increased size and player count, this map is primarily used for team battles or epic 1v1v1v1v...s’. Due to this, strategy differs. Some players on this map like to stay back and collect items then when they have a good item, to join the fight. Otherwise this map is an all out brawl fest.
Note: Some players (including myself) have lag issues when fighting with a large group, or even a 1v1.

    3.22 Corrupted
Corrupted I personally love/hate. It is I think very easy to die on, but at the same time, very easy to save yourself on. Horizontally, if you get thrown to the sides, you can come back to the map due to the stretches of platforms. However if you fall or just get thrown down, it is very hard to come back up even with a recovery item. I would say most battles would be fought in the middle where a lot of blocks are surrounding you. Grabbing and throwing is the best option here as it can throw your target very far. Also grabbing and throwing down into the void is a great plan of action as well if they have some sort of recovery item.

    3.23 Ice
Ice brings is about the same as corrupted. The main thing you got to do here is throw your opponent into the void. Ice is also a map that you can die easily on. Void covers a lot of the map and swords are probably the most useful item as they can increase the enemy's knockback significantly. Recovery items are also very useful.

    3.24 The Cube
Weird map. The best items on here are explosive items as they can create holes in the wall allowing you too easily enemy's out of. Swords and other items like them are almost useless because you are in a cube. In close area combat, you get to red very fast anyway. In this map Smash is probably also almost useless unless you are on the bottom floor; you can smash hit someone out. Grabbing is very vital on this map because you can throw people out of the cube through the holes. Also watch out near corners as grabbing has a bug that can throw you through a wall.

    3.25 Lava Spire
This map is either one of two things: with better players it's going to be a long ride but with noobs it'll be quick. The lava on the top of this map combined with the arena like spawnpoints make it very easy to kill players and new players alike. However higher than average players or just smart players in general will always go to the bottom. The bottom is what you call very hard to kill someone in. The very big enclosed area combined with the pillars makes it very unlikely you will die. In this map there are a couple ways you can kill someone. You can lure them to a edge if you have health then them, then throw everything you have at them within close proximity of the void. However with all tactics experienced players are going to know this trick and not fall for it. That leaves you will one option. Spamming. Just keep on trying to throw the player out, Smash hit the player out, hit him out, supercombo him out, or get a very good item like a rocketlauncher and BLOW HIM OUT. Just use everything you can. The strategy on this map is to just get 2-3 kills and camp/fight on the bottom for the rest of the time until it finally runs out. Also on this map, if you touch a certain part of the fence pillars, you can get teleported into the lava above.

    3.26 Highlands
Very dangerous map to play on. The normal fighting area of the map exposes you to 4 places all around you, so you can die from any direction. Not many niche spots as well on this map unless you dig into the ground in specific spots. Tactics to kill would just be grabbing or smash hitting as they will work wonders in this open map. Also keep in mind that items spawn a lot up on the towers so be sure to try and get them if you have sufficient % (40% and below I would say).

    3.27 Overgrowth
Weird map. Overall it is hard to kill someone with the plethora of islands around. It is a extreme niche map as well under the main tower/tree. Kind of annoying to play on due to it's size and stuff, but you also will not see this in ranked much as well so. Tactics are grabbing on this one unless you get a really good Smash Hit on the islands surrounding the main one as a Smash Hit in the middle will not suffice. Grabbing your enemy and throwing him/her into a gap in between islands would be your best bet.

    3.28 Sanctuary

This map is pretty fun to play on and not at the same time. The barrier surrounding the map offers great protection but also is very easy to get over with grabs. I don't believe that you can necessarily Smash Hit someone from the ground over it though. You can however get one from higher elevation. Grabbing is pretty huge in this map as it is one of the only ways to get a knockout besides hitting them under it which is VERY hard to react to I have seen. If you get hit under, you are almost 100% dead unless you turn around and jump or do something else however I have seen it be nearly impossible to recover that jump.

    4. Elo Ranked Matches/Tricks

Disclaimer: If you don't care about losing elo, gaining elo or playing competitively you shouldn't read this.

    4.1 Practice

This is pretty important I would say. Always make sure you practice before you click that sign. By practice I mean at least play a game of smash before you go of on your first ranked match of the day. Don't just get up in the morning and say "Let's boot up and play a ranked match!" Make sure your mouse has batteries, computer plugged in, you have no lag or you have normal lag, and you don't have to leave mid game. If you are just playing non competitively, then you really don't have to do these things but you should at least play one game even if you don't care for elo. Also - if this is one of your first ranked matches, make sure you at least know how the game works before diving in a ranked match. Last thing you want is for everyone to think your a noob because you have 993 elo.

    4.2 Typing

Typing during a game. Many players don't care if you are typing, afk, or dead for that sake. They will just go for the kill. Most higher level have some respect for typing but don't expect them to always know you are typing. If they start attacking you, don't continue to type. Immediately press the Esc button or the button that closes chat and fight. Don't try to finish the statement as that can lead to death. Now if have a good words per minute average for typing, feel free to type some phrases or things. But otherwise; lower than 40 wpm should not type phrases really. Also remember to say gg or gf at the end of actual good fight. Many players always say gg but I like to only say it for the real fights.

    4.3 Player Interaction
    • Don't let players get you down. If a player is harassing you, you can report them by reading this.
    • Teaming is greatly frowned upon in ranked or in Smash in general. Don't do it. Also remember don't publicly call people out on it on the forums.
    • Elo boosting is bannable and should be recorded and reported.
    • Don't be worried if a player calls you a hacker - they are just jealous of your skills.
    4.4 Bow Flying

A fairly new tactic. Bow flying involves a player getting a normal bow and hitting themselves with a arrow at the right time in midair to get another doublejump. It is fairly hard to use, but if you know how to use it, it can give you 4+ recovery's. Almost better than a jetpack, however it cannot go vertical very well without using a lot of arrows. This is quite rare to come across in ranked as it is not a known tactic and hard to master.

    4.5 Knowing where items are

As important it is to know where items spawn, you can also know using another method. If you have surround sound/directional sound, the dings will tell you which way the next item is. And let me tell you that item could be your savior. That is exactly why you should always go for the dings unless you are fighting.

    4.6 Seasons

This is just a bit of information about the (new kinda) season system in smash. The seasons will be quarterly (every 3 months) I will have ranks reset upon happening but will have the leaderboard forever put somewhere. It gives more in incentive for people to play and be competitive makes peoples efforts not go to waste. More info here.

    Notes:
    • I generally didn't put tactics that involve camping, as I did not like this way of fighting.
    • TheCrazyCrafter5 went inactive half way through, so he has not edited most of the maps. Sorry if they are not up to par with the rest of the guide.
    • Half way through the maps I start going into it with less detail as I think you get the gist of each maps tactics by reading earlier maps.
Thank jetpacks for being overpowered enough to have me mention a way for me to counter every map.
Jetpack has been nerfed a bit since then, but is still pretty powerful.

    Nice guide!

The SMASH wiki does already contain most of the information but it would be great if you could update it with this information.

not only that, texts this big aren't really necessary for uber-experienced players, as they probably know of all of this (or most) already, and inexperienced wouldn't be interested in a wall of text. a beginner guide would be better, but tis just my opinion

I got a bit more for you :D

Bows - you can sometimes guess if the opponent has a shotbow over a standard by looking at their body language, so to speak. The standard bow will work best at middle distance so players will usually shoot before coming in punch range, whereas often when a player gets a shotbow they will hold off shooting until they get close, giving you an early warning if you look out for it, though you could go one step further and bluff with a standard bow to make the opposing player back off till you fire a shot.

    Should be a 'their'

Swamp - I recommend laggy players editing the water texture to an 8x8 file size (as it's one of few defualt textures to be in high res), as this seriously reduced lag for me and made Swamp playable.
Again I recommend the same for lava maps like arena where I have died countless times to lagging when looking at lava when lag kills me by disabling my jump.

Also you might want to add a terms list for things like FF

How long did it take you to make this? I know it's off-topic, but I can't stop myself from wondering.

Probably in total typing time around 14 hours. A month due to me quitting on it 3/4 the way through. WPM increased a bit :stuck_out_tongue:

This covers more in depth on each item and map and the tactics you can use with them/on maps.
